Project description

The project is located in the Port of Gdynia on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea. The Port of Gdynia is situated in the northern part of Pomerania Province, at the Gdańsk Bay, in the Gdynia Municipality. The investment under the project will be located in the eastern part of the Port of Gdynia, in an area designated for ​​development of transhipment functions. The Romanian Quay is located in the Port of Gdynia, forming the north-eastern enclosure of Basin V.

The project is one of many investments in port infrastructure in the document titled “Port of Gdynia Development Strategy to 2015”.

Project objective

The reconstruction of the quay will result in increased transshipment capacity of the Port of Gdynia. It is important to create favourable conditions for the development and increase of transshipments, which at the same time will improve the competitiveness of Polish sea ports in the Baltic Sea Region. The project will also make it possible to establish new routes within Motorways of the Sea.

EU funding

Contract No. POIS.07.02.00-00-033/14-00 was signed on 27 March 2015 for funding of the project titled “Quay Reconstruction in Port of Gdynia. Stage I Romanian Quay – Phase I” POIS.07.02.00-00-033/14-00 under measure 7.2: Development of Maritime Transport, priority 7: Environment-friendly transport, Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2007-2013.

The planned total cost of the Project is PLN 56,573,813.69.

The amount of eligible expenditure is PLN 45,824,690.96.

Funding from the European Union is PLN 38,950,987.31.

Works were carried out from 2014 to 2015.

Scope of the project:

The reconstruction of the Romanian Quay is part of a larger project aimed at upgrading and increasing the transhipment capacity of all quays of the Port of Gdynia that have not yet been modernized in recent years. This will improve the competitiveness of the entire Port of Gdynia in the Baltic Sea Region. The project will also involve more efficient use of the existing infrastructure on the quay and to provide smoother handling of cargo delivered by sea. This requires, among other things, reconstruction of the quay, railway system and network infrastructure. The project is divided into two phases.

The full scope of Phase I includes reconstruction of a 355.89 m long quay section and reconstruction of a 369.03 m long railway line section. (values in accordance with the indicators specified for measure 7.2. of the OPIE). The scope of the project is shown according to the technical documentation based on the guidelines for the environmental decision obtained for the investment.
