The Port of Gdynia has been officially included in the weekly network of Finnish shipping operator Finnlines, connecting Finland with ports in Spain. The expansion of the shipping network, which will come into effect at the end of June, significantly strengthens Gdynia’s position as a key logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region.
The new connection includes ro-ro, breakbulk, container and car transport, with a particular focus on oversized cargo, including exceptionally wide and heavy units transported on open decks or using mafi semi-trailers. The regular service offers a cost- and operationally efficient alternative to road transport between Poland and Belgium, France, Great Britain, Spain and Finland.
“The Port of Gdynia’s participation in the new rotation confirms its role as a strategic logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region. The port’s favourable geographical location provides direct access to major trade routes, which is crucial for the efficient transport of goods. The ever-improving port infrastructure and high quality of cargo handling are building trust among business partners and attracting new carriers. The new connection is a response to the growing market demand for flexible and sustainable transport solutions.” emphasises Adam Hoppe, Director of the Strategy and Market Analysis Office of the Port of Gdynia Authority.
With the new connection, Finnlines is introducing innovative 80-foot mafi semi-trailers with built-in rails to its fleet, enabling flexible transport of non-standard cargo, including industrial and specialised goods.
The ships operating on the route meet the highest environmental standards – the operator declares that CO₂ emissions can be reduced by up to 90%, making the new connection one of the most environmentally friendly transport solutions on the market.
Thanks to this investment, the Port of Gdynia is strengthening its position as the port of first choice for operators looking for reliable, flexible and environmentally friendly transport solutions.
