Equality in Practice – Port of Gdynia’s Actions for Women’s Representation in the Maritime Sector

The Port of Gdynia Authority has consistently pursued a policy of equal opportunity, diversity, and social responsibility for many years. In line with Directive (EU) 2022/2381 of the European Parliament and of the Council on improving gender balance on corporate boards (“Women on Boards”), we are implementing a range of initiatives aimed at increasing the presence of women in decision-making structures and throughout the maritime sector.

Today, a woman serves on the three-member Management Board of the Port of Gdynia, holding the key position of Vice President for Finance and Asset Management. She also actively participates in the work of the Women’s Council at the Mayor of Gdynia’s Office, as well as in advisory bodies of leading universities – including the University of Gdańsk, the Gdynia Maritime University, and Gdańsk University of Technology – supporting initiatives that promote equality and inclusive leadership.

One of our flagship projects is the initiative “Anchoring Women’s Leadership,” which aims to support women at all stages of their careers – in both technical and managerial areas.

At the same time, we are cooperating with a wide range of external partners – social organizations, educational institutions, and expert communities. These include the Gdańsk Foundation for Management Development (GFKM), INSPIRA, Soroptimist International Gdynia, and the Congress of Women. Together, we conduct educational activities, workshops, and initiatives that foster women’s professional and leadership development.

Within our organization, we are systematically implementing solutions that promote equality and inclusivity:

We are modernizing HR processes to ensure transparent recruitment and promotion.

We regularly review compensation to eliminate pay gaps and promote the principle of equal pay for equal work.

We support the development of employee competencies by offering training accessible to all – regardless of gender, age, or experience.

We promote flexible work arrangements and initiatives that help balance professional and personal life.

Our goal is to build an organizational culture grounded in equality, professionalism, and transparency. We believe that diversity in leadership structures is not only a hallmark of modern corporate governance but also a true driving force for innovation and sustainable development.
