The origins of the cooperation between Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. and the Experyment Science Centre in Gdynia date back to 2019. The first joint exhibition entitled ‘Port of Gdynia Port Master Virtual Reality Simulator’ has become an important and still developing element of the Gdynia Port Authority’s social responsibility policy and educational activities for the local community.  The recorded statistics for 2019-2020 indicate that the project has enjoyed and continues to enjoy in the post-pandemic period a high level of interest from Tri-City residents and visiting tourists. Hence the decision to develop the cooperation – this time in the direction of creating accessibility conditions for the disabled. Thanks to the cooperation of PoGA S.A, the Experyment Science Centre and the Ship Repair Yard Nauta S.A, the ‘Port of Gdynia Container Master virtual reality simulator’ was created, dedicated to children in wheelchairs. The design of the simulator’s crane mock-up has been prepared with maximum accessibility in mind – providing a wide approach angle and positioning the container at the right height. This will allow players in wheelchairs to play the role of a container crane operator and enjoy the game to the full.

In addition, the ‘Container Master’ application was installed on other computer workstations belonging to PoGA S.A., bringing various aspects of port operations closer to the public.

Example statistics for the use of the port simulator in 2019-2020:

  • an average of 1,000 teaching activities per year on the Port of Gdynia Simulator organised for school groups,
  • an average of 26,000 pupils per year using the Simulator,
  • an average of 20,000 to 25,000 people per month (approximately 300,000 people per year) visiting the Port of Gdynia stands,
  • an average of 6 presentations of the Gdynia Port Simulator per year during e.g. workshops, conferences and training courses.
