On 28 January, a new BALTEX shipping connection will be launched, operated by the British shipowner Ellerman City Liners. As part of weekly services, the route will connect Gdynia with the ports of Teesport and Tilbury in the United Kingdom, as well as Riga, Rotterdam and Oslo, strengthening the position of the Port of Gdynia in the international logistics network. Thanks to its integration with Ellerman’s existing connections, the new service will also facilitate trade between Baltic ports and Portugal and Spain.
As the shipowner emphasises, the launch of BALTEX is a response to the growing demand for short, regular Baltic routes, while offering more sustainable transport — with CO₂ emissions up to 50% lower than road transport.
“The new BALTEX connection is an important element for the Port of Gdynia in terms of further development and strengthening our position as a modern port with international reach. The new service confirms the attractiveness of our port for various shipowners and responds to the growing market needs for modern and sustainable logistics solutions,” – emphasises Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.
The new and existing connections between the Port of Gdynia and the United Kingdom and Western European ports also enable efficient transit of cargo from Poland to the United States. Thanks to handling cargo in British ports onto ships belonging to the same shipowner, the transport time from Gdynia to New York is approximately 16 days.
