On May 15 and 16, 2023, the Port of Gdynia hosted the last survey session using an unmanned vessel, carried out as part of the MPSS project.

A total of 7 major survey sessions using the unmanned vessel were conducted between 2021 and 2023, with the aim of automatic water and bottom sediment sampling and bathymetric measurements. As a result of the activities, a total of more than 112 samples were taken from 28 measurement points located in 7 different areas of the Port of Gdynia. Research sessions were held at all times of the year, so that then, after examining the collected material, a physical and chemical profile of port waters was created. As part of the project, the unmanned unit also performed a series of bathymetric measurements and sonar surveys of the seabed in 12 areas of the Port of Gdynia.

The main objective of the project is to determine the possibility of obtaining accreditation from government entities for surveys carried out using surface unmanned platforms, and to make recommendations for unifying technical standards in this area. The teams implementing the project, among others, include scientists and specialists in various fields. It is worth noting here that to a large extent the implementation of tasks is based on the expert work of women, who play a key role in this project.

The next stages of the project, scheduled for completion in February 2024, include the creation of 3D models where the source of data is, among other things, information collected by the unmanned unit, and the construction of a database of project results based on a user-friendly interface.
