For almost 100 years the Port of Gdynia has been a maritime gateway, a window on the world of independent Poland. Current investments are a continuation of the vision of the creators of the port – Minister Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski and Eng. Tadeusz Wenda. Subsequent huge undertakings, such as the Outer Port, are being realised in respect for the heritage of its creators, with the next generations in mind.

In connection with the 100th anniversary of the Act of 23 September 1922 on the construction of the Port of Gdynia, a number of initiatives have been prepared to honour this special anniversary. The culmination of the celebrations of this special anniversary will be the events on Friday, which will begin with a solemn Holy Mass. The Centenary celebrations were enriched by the official unveiling of a piece of small architecture, i.e. a bronze sculpture in the form of a bench, with the figures of the port’s builders: Tadeusz Wenda and Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, next to which everyone will have the opportunity to sit and take a commemorative photo.

“The Port of Gdynia and the city of Gdynia were created thanks to the vision and work of great people. The centenary jubilee is a very important and beautiful event. Port Gdynia does not forget its heroes. The figures of engineers Wenda and Kwiatkowski are of key importance to us. It is thanks to them that the Port of Gdynia was created and then developed through successive generations and will continue to be developed. We are preparing our current investments with the next decades of operation in mind. The Port of Gdynia is constantly developing, for the city, for the inhabitants and for the business that benefits from it. I assure you that we will continue to grow and remember our beautiful history with pride. May the builders of the port be an inspiration to us all and proof that nothing is impossible,” emphasises Jacek Sadaj, President of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

The statue was made by Celstan, after selecting a concept for the bench and creating a miniature in metallic material. Based on this, a bronze cast of the monument model was made. The weight of the monument is 300 kg.

The commemorative bench stood at the end of Pilot Wharf and will be a permanent feature of the local landscape, accessible to all.

The Pilot Spur is a publicly accessible place of unique value, frequented by residents of Gdynia and tourists alike, where you can feel the atmosphere of a real seaport. It is the second such prestigious place after the Pomorskie Quay in the Port of Gdynia.
