New project with EU funding!

The Grant Agreement for the project 101158165 — 23-PL-TM-Intermodal Gdynia “Construction of an intermodal terminal in the Logistics Center of the Port of Gdynia”, co-financed under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2021-2027, between the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. and the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA), under the powers granted by the European Commission, was signed on June 14, 2024.

The final step to start using the funding was the Cooperation Agreement No. CEF2/029/2023 for the implementation of the project, between the Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy, the Center for EU Transport Projects and the Gdynia Seaport Authority S.A. signed on August 19, 2024.

The objective of the project is to adapt the infrastructure of the Port of Gdynia to the requirements of dual, civil-military use, and thus increase the share of intermodal transport through the construction of a new intermodal railway terminal in the Logistics Center. The project will contribute to increasing cross-border mobility of EU/NATO armed forces and will eliminate the bottleneck in the infrastructure of the Port of Gdynia in the Baltic Sea – Adriatic Sea corridor of the TEN-T network.

The intermodal rail terminal will consist of: 2 tracks with a length of approximately 750 m ending with a stationary loading ramp for heavy vehicles; an access track and a link track; a concrete-paved manoeuvring and holding yard, an access road; a rail-road system and a retention tank.

Construction works will include the construction of 2.73 km of tracks, 5 turnout units and a concrete manoeuvring and holding yard with an area of 30,000 m2.

Works on the terminal will be done in the following trades: rail trade with the construction of a ramp, road trade including the manoeuvring and storage yard, sanitary trade with the reconstruction of the municipal central heating infrastructure, and in construction, electrical and telecommunications trades. A retention tank with greenery will also be built.

The start of construction works is planned for the turn of 2024 and 2025, and their completion date is planned in the second half of 2026.
