Today members of the Port of Gdynia Authority participated in a meeting with United Arab Emirates representatives at the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation in Warsaw. Minister Marek Gróbarczyk and Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of UAE Infrastructure and Development have signed an agreement on sea transport between Poland and UAE.
The agreement is to improve conditions of sea transport operations of goods between Poland and UEA to bring most benefits to both countries. It relies on the principles of free sea transport, free access to cargo and cross-selling, unlimited access to port and auxiliary services, non-discriminatory treatment and support in promotion.
The agreement signing was an opportunity to present development plans by delegations accompanying ministers, consisting of representatives of UAE and Polish ports. During a business seminar the Port of Gdynia representatives showed the Port of Gdynia as it functions now, our plans and nearest investments. It was a great opportunity to present our key investment project, i.e. the Outer Port.
On artificial land, on the basis of existing quays: Śląskie and Szwedzkie, a deep-water Outer Port will be built, reaching out past the present protective breakwater, increasing the port surface by 151 ha and its cargo handling capabilities by 2.5 million TEU. Thanks to developing our port by additional hectares we will become even more effective and will increase our cargo handling potential, opening many options in the list of services offered by the Port of Gdynia.
The meeting was attended not only by ministers, but also by a representative of DP World - Mohammed Al Muallem. Everyone expressed a great interest in construction of the Outer Port and wanted to learn more about it. It is especially important in view of the contract for transactional consulting signed last Friday as part of the PPP for the Outer Port in Gdynia. DP World, as one of the key players on the global market may be a potential investor and take part in the competition dialogue that will be launched within the proceedings by the Port of Gdynia authorities.
DP World is not only a leading port terminal operator – including container terminals – but also a company investing in solutions regarding construction and management of an entire supply chain in the door to door technology. It also creates special economic zones, dry ports and other solutions supporting air and sea logistics and transport.
