Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

In the area of the Port of Gdynia, the first electric vehicle charging station installed by Energa Oświetlenie on a lighting pole is already operating in the car park at 39 Polska Street. Appreciated by the jury of the prestigious competition of Energa from ORLEN Group and the Port of Gdynia Authority SA, it is not the only innovative pilot of the company carried out in recent years in Gdynia.

The investment, carried out in partnership with the Port of Gdynia Authority SA, is generally available to all e-car owners who have registered in the dedicated system and have an RFiD card issued by Energa. In total, the company wants to install three such devices in Gdynia as part of the pilot programme. It will allow to develop the most beneficial business models for future commercial sales of this type of chargers. For the Port of Gdynia itself, the installation of the innovative Energa Oświetlenie charging station is also an opportunity to strengthen the #greenport idea implemented there. It consists in the implementation of investments and solutions in line with the principles of sustainable development. The aim is to make the activity of the Port of Gdynia more and more ecological.

Jury doceniło nowatorskie podejście spółki Energa Oświetlenie do wykorzystania lamp ulicznych w celu wdrażania technologii z obszaru hi-tech i smart city, połączonych jednocześnie ze wsparciem rozwoju elektromobilności.

 Awarded for adaptation

Already at such an early stage, the project was met with recognition - on 30 September, Energa from ORLEN Group was awarded the Wprost 2020 Innovators award in the Energy category. The jury appreciated the innovative approach of Energa Oświetlenie to make use of street lamps to implement hi-tech and smart city technologies, combined with support for electromobility development. This is possible thanks to the progressive modernization of street lighting and the change of existing sodium fittings to energy-saving LED technology. The resulting electricity surpluses in lighting installations can be used to operate additional devices, e.g. smart pedestrian crossings and smart car parks also offered by Energa Oświetlenie.

Charging stations mounted on street lighting are a world-renowned solution, but had to be adapted to national conditions. While in many other countries individual lamps often have their own control, in Poland several or more lamps are connected to one control system. The necessary modifications are another manifestation of the technological innovations that were appreciated by the jury of Innovators 2020.

Gdynia a city of innovation

Two more stations on lighting poles will be installed in carefully selected locations within Gdynia housing estates. They will be implemented in cooperation with the local government later this year.

This is another innovative project implemented by Energa from ORLEN Group in Gdynia. In 2015-2017, in one of the local districts - Witomino - Energa Operator conducted a pilot project called Upgrid. Its aim was to develop practical solutions to automate medium and low voltage networks and implement intelligent technologies at their level. The project verified functionalities that used data from smart meters and supported network management. The results of the pilot project will allow, among other things, to further shorten the time of removing failures thanks to their faster location below medium voltage lines.

Seven districts of Gdynia also participated in the Energa Living Lab programme. The residents participating in the programme received specific technological solutions and practical advice from the Enspirion company, thanks to which they were more able to control and reduce their electricity consumption and thus, for example, CO2 emissions. In total, during the two phases of the programme, between April 2015 and the end of January 2018, 300 households reduced their energy consumption by about 104 MWh, which corresponds to 124 tonnes of CO2 not emitted into the atmosphere.
