Port of Gdynia Authority S.A.

We invite you to the exhibition "Port of Gdynia - Flagship Investment of Independent Poland" and the exhibition of Stefan Szmaj's watercolour collection.

Port of Gdynia Authority SA together with the Museum of the City of Gdynia would like to invite you to this unique exhibition on 23-24 September from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm at the Gdynia City Museum at Zawiszy Czarnego 1 Street.

One of the elements of the celebration of the 98th anniversary of the Port of Gdynia is the opening of the exhibition "Port of Gdynia - Flagship Investment of Independent Poland" in the Gdynia City Museum. The exhibition brings closer the history closed in one hundred years of the port's everyday life. It shows the period of construction and the first years of the port's operation, as well as the staff from contemporary times. It is a unique opportunity to see photographs of Tadeusz Urbaniak and see the changes that have occurred over the years.

Parallel to the exhibition a unique collection of watercolours by Stefan Szmaj will be presented. Port of Gdynia Authority SA purchased a unique collection of 33 watercolours from the artist's family and donated them to the Gdynia City Museum, so that the works of the outstanding artist could reach a wide audience.

Stefan Szmaj was associated with expressionism as a valued graphic artist and painter. After World War II the artist settled in Gdynia, where he created a series of works related to the port of Gdynia, valuable both in artistic and historical terms. The series is an important documentation of the history of the Port of Gdynia and of the vessels coming here. The decision of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. to purchase this unique collection made it possible to preserve Stefan Szmaj's collection of watercolours in an undispersed form.

Admission to the exhibition "Port of Gdynia - Flagship Investment of Independent Poland" and the exhibition of Stefan Szmaj's watercolour collection is free of charge.
