105th anniversary of the Maritime Office in Gdynia

On Friday, 13 June, a gala ceremony was held to mark the 105^th anniversary of the Maritime Office in Gdynia.

The ceremony was attended by 350 representatives of coastal local governments, the scientific community, industry institutions and associations, companies related to the maritime economy, and employees of the Office.

The guest of honour at the event was Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure. On behalf of the Port of Gdynia Authority, S.A., congratulations were conveyed to the management and employees of the Maritime Office by Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Management Board, who also emphasised the extremely important role of mutual cooperation. The tasks and investments carried out by the Maritime Office in Gdynia have a real impact on the contemporary shape of the port and the success of the vision of engineer Tadeusz Wenda, who in 1920 chose Gdynia as the site for the construction of a new seaport. The indispensable support of the civil maritime administration, whose first local authority in the modern history of Poland was the Maritime Office in Gdynia, established in 1920, was key to the efficient implementation of this most important infrastructure investment in the interwar period.

Today’s relations are based on joint thinking about port infrastructure and important projects concerning access infrastructure to port quays.

The construction of breakwaters in the Port of Gdynia will soon begin under an agreement between the Maritime Office in Gdynia and the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A., with a consortium led by Budimex as the general contractor.

This is currently one of the most important elements of joint action for the future of the Port.
