HMS Bulwark in the Port of Gdynia


HMS Bulwark - one of the largest ships of the British Royal Navy is expected in the Port of Gdynia on Friday, February 17th at about 10:00 am and it shall moor at the French Quay. The ship will be available to the public from 10:00 am until 04:00 pm during the weekend of 18-19 February. The vessel will leave the port of Gdynia on February 21 at around 12:30 to take part in the international manoeuvres in the waters of Norway.

HMS Bulwark is in terms of technology the most advanced vessel of the British Royal Navy. Currently, it is the flagship of the Royal Navy. The ship is 176 meters long, 32 meters wide with a displacement of 18 000 tons. It was launched in 2001, and has been used as a assault ship since 2005 and is mainly used for transportation purposes.

 

The permanent crew of the vessel consists of approximately 320 people, however the ship can carry more than 1000 soldiers with the equipment, over 30 trucks, 36 large off-road vehicles, or even large tanks. On the upper deck at the stern it can accommodate two Chinook or Merlin helicopters. Large submersible dock holds four amphibious units, and another four are suspended on booms on the vessel’s boardside.
