Annual meeting of the ZMPG and Finnish Partners


The annual meeting of the representatives of the Port of Gdynia with the Finnish partners was held in the Polish Embassy in Helsinki on Tuesday, 24 January. The Ambassador Janusz Niesyto - the host greeted the numerous guests, carriers, shippers and port companies leaders present, and Mr. Janusz Jarosinski, President of the Port of Gdynia Authority SA thanked for the achieved results of cooperation of the Port of Gdynia with the Finnish markets.

The shipping links between Gdynia and Finnish ports handle more than 90% of maritime trade between the two countries and also the transit cargoes. The achievements to date and good prospects for the development of Ro-Ro cargo handling - an important specialization of the Port of Gdynia, are reflected in a large investment (approximately 127 million PLN gross) currently implemented by the port authority consisting in the expansion of the infrastructure in the area of Baltic General Cargo Terminal, which handled about 2.1 million tons of cargo in 2011. An important element of the meeting in Helsinki was an official announcement about starting the privatization process of the Baltic General Cargo Terminal Sp. z o.o. in the second half of this year The participants of the meeting held many interesting talks about the possibilities concerning further development of cooperation. This was yet the 11th Port of Gdynia Meeting in Helsinki and this tradition will be carried on.
