The most modern scanner in Poland for screening containers was installed at the Baltic Container Terminal in the port of Gdynia. The facility, which was acquired by the Pomeranian Customs Office, costed almost 8.5 million PLN and shall greatly affect the effectiveness of services, time of customer service at the Terminal and security of transport.
The opening ceremony of the scanner was attended by the Minister Jacek Kapica - Head of the Customs Office , Janusz Jarosiński - President of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. and Krzysztof Szymborski - President of BCT.
"The Port of Gdynia always been a pioneer in innovative solutions and the investments made by the Customs Office is a continuation of this trend. Thanks to the modern scanner we have reached a level of the global league in cargo handling in our terminal. Until today, Polish containers were controlled so carefully well in Hamburg "- said Krzysztof Szymborski , President of BCT during the opening ceremony of the facility.
The event was also attended by the Archbishop of Gdańsk, Sławoj Leszek Głódź, the President of the Port of Gdańsk Authority S.A. Ryszard Strzyżewicz and the representatives of the Pomeranian Province Governor and the Marshal of the Province.
Dual-energy Rapiscan G-60 scanner shows the contents of containers, particularly it can distinguish organic substances from other, thus it shall significantly shorten the time of customs clearance at the Terminal. The decision to place it at the BCT was supported by the fact that most of the cargo imported to Poland by sea is shipped via BCT, and by the significant increase in volume in the past 2 years - Baltic Container Terminal is about to handle around 360 thousand of TEUs (twenty feet container’s equivalent ) this year, while in 2010 it was 281 thousand.
