Modern crane in MTMG

MTMG - Maritime  Bulk Terminal Gdynia Sp. z o. o. has been implementing modern handling technology becoming an environmentally friendly terminal. Nowadays, MTMG is a thriving universal terminal ready to handle various types of cargo that requires high-quality services and preservation of European environmental standards.

Four years ago, the terminal received an international certificate of quality management system ISO 9001, which help to built up its reputation on the market as a customer-oriented handling company, providing high quality services and striving for continuous improvement thereof.

MTMG - Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia Ltd. , seeking the possibilities to improve the quality of services, tries to continuously streamline the processes of handling. Currently, a new Famak crane has been erected on the Swedish quay. The lifting capacity of the crane amounts to 25 tonnes per grab, and it will significantly increase the pace of daily handling of soybean meal, coal, coke and other bulk cargoes. This is not this year's last investment in the Gdynia terminal - on Wednesday, 30 November this year, a  new Liebherr mobile crane type LHM 550 Litronic arrived from Rostock on a special 124-ton barge. This will be already the seventeenth derrick crane at the terminal and the most modern, at the same time. Thanks to high handling efficiency of up to 20 thousand tons per day the cargo handling time will be significantly reduced, and thus the time of vessel’s stay in the port. In other words, the unloading of the “Panamax” type vessel will take  about three days in MTMG.

The lifting capacity of the new Liebherr crane is over 120 tonnes on the hook, 75 tons on the grabs' ropes and a maximum crane radius - 48 meters. The crane is equipped with a grab of  33 cubic meters capacity - thus, the two grab capacities are enough to load the whole wagon with coal. The terminal has already prepared two new hoppers enabling so fast loading of rail wagons.

Let us add that the new crane is a completely self-propelled facility and it can be moved independently from one quay to another. This will substantially strengthen the bulk terminal handling capacity - and thus its market position in the Baltic Sea area.
