The biggest vessel in history of the Baltic Container Terminal Ltd– taking into account the capacity (GT) – “ Fortunate” ( MSC) called at the Port of Gdynia on Sunday. The container ship sailing under the Panama flag is 275 m long, 40 m wide with draught of over 14 m and capacity of over 68 thousand tones. Its size measured in TEU equals to 5551. The giant is the third longest ship in the history of the Port of Gdynia. The two longer ships: MSC Bremen and Maersk Brooklyn visited the Port of Gdynia in 2007.
Such a big container ship could call at the port thanks to the investment of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. that is going to be completed shortly: “Reconstruction of the Port Channel in the Port of Gdynia”, that is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund in the amount of PLN 53.73 million. The investment consisted in deepening the port channel to 13.5 meters.
The vessel MSC Fortunate entered the Port of Gdynia on Saturday night. The container ship has moored at BCT on Sunday before noon and its handling took 2 days.
