Result Conference at the Port of Gdynia


Traditional press conference presenting the last year results and plans for next year took place at the headquarters of the Port of Gdynia Authority SA on Thursday - 24th February.
The Managing Board, in the presence of the media, presented a summary of the last year's activities of the Port of Gdynia Authority SA, including the volume of cargo in 2010 at the Port of Gdynia handled. The last year's investment activities of the Port Authority and its investment plans for 2011 were also presented.
The year 2010 was a year of recovery of the maritime economy. The port of Gdynia handled as many as 14.7 million tons of cargo, which means an increase by 11.1% comparing to 2009. According to the preliminary version of the financial statement (prior to the auditor's verification) - the Port of Gdynia Authority SA earned a net profit of PLN 43.3 million last year, which is the second best result in the history of the Company.
The unrelenting pace of investments in the port infrastructure which will in the future ensure the proper functioning and development of the port confirms the good financial standing of the Port Authority. The capital expenditures in 2010 reached PLN 75.9 million. The modernization of the Pomeranian quay (nabrzeże Pomorskie) was completed last year, the high-storage warehouse was put to use and, among other things, the construction of the upper ramp of the ro-ro terminal at the Romanian quay (nabrzeże Rumuńskie) was finished. The EU funds in the amount of PLN 48.5 million have significantly supported the port investments which so far have been used for deepening the harbour canal.
Another investment and repair plan of PGA SA adopted for the years 2011 - 2013 assumes the investment of PLN 496.64 million in this period. The significant part of these funds - a total of 396 million in the years 2011 - 2013 - will be spent on EU projects, financed from the Cohesion Fund under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme. The amount earmarked for financing the projects of the Port of Gdynia Authority on the so-called list of individual projects kept by the Ministry of Regional Development amounts to PLN 342 million; about PLN 50 million has already been used by the PGA SA.
The net profit at the end of 2011 anticipated by the Company amounts to PLN 26.4 million (not taking into account the financial effects of the privatization of the Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia Ltd.).
