Agreement regarding the development of port infrastructure for handling ro-ro vessels

An agreement between the Port of Gdynia Authority SA and Mostostal Warszawa SA for the execution of works as part of the investment: "Development of Port Infrastructure for Servicing Ro-Ro Vessels, with Road and Railway Access in the Port of Gdynia" was concluded on 5th January 2011.
The investment is placed on the current list of individual projects for the Operational Programme called Infrastructure and Environment 2007 - 2013, under the item 7.2-10. The whole project consists of four phases, and the concluded agreement refers to Phase I and II of the investment. Phase I shall cover: modernization of ul. Rumuńska, plots XX, XXII, XXIII, track II of the Romanian Quay zone, demolition of the warehouse No. 20, construction of the square on the plot where the demolished warehouse No. 20 was located, construction of the gate and the entrance ramp to the warehouse No. 21 and rebuilding of the infrastructure (heating system, electricity network, water/sewerage systems and tele-technical). The current technical condition of roads, railways and the squares makes it virtually impossible to use the Romanian Quay zone II for handling cargo in ro-ro technology. After the implementation of the project the intensive exploitation of this area will again be possible. The pavements will be adjusted for transportation of ro-ro cargo, the new square with an area over 7400 m2 will be built and the technical parameters of the existing squares will be adjusted to the current and projected loads and traffic intensity. Phase II shall consist in the reconstruction of the entrance to the square XXVI from ul. Wiśniewskiego and modernization of surface of the square XXVI (construction of the technological road, demolition of the cubature structures, including the former building of the Company Cultural Centre and the Port Service warehouse, liquidation of the tennis courts, reconstruction of the square surface), reconstruction of the square at ul. Polska 30, including infrastructure (heating system, electricity network, water/sewerage systems and tele-technical). A new large parking lot for about 200 trucks will be built near the entrance to the port as part of the works of Phase II, the access from ul. Wiśniewskiego and parking areas to the quay areas will be bettered, and thus the communication system of ul. Wiśniewskiego, Polska, Rotterdamska and Celna will be improved. The technical parameters of the streets and squares will be adjusted to the current and projected loads and traffic intensity. In addition, the communication between the existing squares will be arranged and the conditions and safety of traffic vehicles and pedestrians will be improved. The completion of works of Phase I and Phase II is planned within 24 months of signing the contract. Total estimated cost of works will amount to PLN 51.68 million gross. Due to the fact that the investment shall be carried out in the area of operating port terminal, the tender for the phase III investment will start in about a year, not to stop the activities of the whole area of the ro-ro terminal . the contractors and their loads must be served without interruption. Phase IV (reconstruction of the terminal for handling vessels) has just been completed as it was currently necessary to support the development of ro-ro vessels in the port of Gdynia. The investment is to increase the competitiveness of the Port of Gdynia in the Baltic Sea Region through the activities aiming at the development of handling the cargo in the ro-ro technology in the area of the terminal currently used for this purpose. This investment will also bring an increase in the share of intermodal transport in general cargo transport by better adaptation of the Ro-Ro terminal to the rail transport. Moreover, the implementation of the project will also improve the quality and speed of handling cargo at the port. It will also have a considerable impact on the increase in the share of environmentally friendly modes of transport in transport of cargo. The tendering procedure was conducted in an open tender in accordance with the procedure provided for contracts with estimated value exceeding 4,845,000.00 euro. This is another contract for construction works concluded for the implementation of the projects in the Port of Gdynia, which are on the list of individual projects of the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment (OPI&E) that are to receive subsidies from EU funds. Maximum level of subsidies for the projects in the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment amounts to 85%. We would like to remind you, that a ribbon cutting ceremony took place on 1st December 2010 - it symbolized the commissioning of a new two-level ro-ro terminal in the Port of Gdynia. This terminal is a part of an investment project of the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. titled "Development of Port Infrastructure for Servicing Ro-Ro Vessels, with Road and Railway Access in the Port of Gdynia."
