Pollution emission monitoring: Seabed sediments pollution monitoring

Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. is obliged to check once in every five years the quality of seabed sediments within its water basins.

In 2003 the control measurements were carried out according to the procedure given in a Regulation by Ministry of Environment, dated 16th April 2002, on the types and concentration of substances polluting seabed sediments.

Before measurements, the Maritime Office in Gdynia had approved the proposal schedule with 116 sample points and there were checked concentrations of below given substances:

metals :

- arsine, - chromium, - zinc, - cadmium, - cooper, - nickel, - lead, - mercury;

 

organic compounds:

1) - polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) benz[a]anthracene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, benzo[ghi]perylene, benzo[e]pyrene, dibenz[a,h]anthracene, indeno(1,2,3-c,d)pyrene;

- polichlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)

2) Polichlorowanych bifenyli (PCB)

 

sum of following congeners: 28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153, 180.
