"Solidarity" - originally led by Lech Wałęsa was borned in 1980 on the way of great social protest. By virtue of the Agreements signed in August 1980, the state authorities recognised the workers' right to establish a trade union of their own choosing. At the same time, "Solidarity" became a huge social and political movement, representing the Polish nation's aspirations for freedom and democracy. That was only the begining of the changes which formed modern world...






   Gdansk Shipyard; During the times of the People's Republic of Poland it was known as the Lenin Shipyard and the Gdańsk Shipyard gained international fame when Solidarity (Solidarność) was founded there in September 1980.

   Monument to victims of december 1970 in Gdynia. The soldiers had orders to stop workers returning to work, and they fired into the crowd of workers on December 17.
