Types of ship-generated waste collected in Port of Gdynia
1. According to Polish law the ship is obliged to deliver to port reception facilities all below mentioned types of waste:
- oily waste and its mixtures as described in 73/78 MARPOL Convention Annex I,
- sewage as described in 73/78 MARPOL Convention Annex IV,
- garbage as described in 73/78 MARPOL Convention Annex V,
- cargo residues as described in 73/78 MARPOL Convention Annex V,
2. Exemptions from the obligation of delivering waste before leaving the port:
- Ships exempt under Regulation of Minister of Infrastructure on exemption for the ship from the obligation of delivering waste before leaving the port (2003.101.937),
- Ships that have got small amounts of waste on board, according to §2 above mentioned Regulation.
3. Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. does NOT provide collection of following waste:
a) medical waste,
b) radioactive waste,
c) oily waste containing emulsified oil impossible for separation from water.
d) dirty ballast waters,
e) chemical products packaging,
f) tank washing waters (acceptable only oily tank washings),
g) cargo residues (cargo is obliged to collect cargo residues),
h) other waste, not mentioned in MARPOL 73/78 Annex I and V.
j) sewage sludges from ship treatment installation for sewage
Collection of above mentioned waste may be carried out by any reception company that operates within the area managed by Port of Gdynia Authority S.A., that has all required by Polish law certificates, and ONLY after prior agreement the methods of waste handling operations with Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. and maritime administration.
