Construction of Logistics Centre Infrastructure in the Port of Gdynia






I Project Description


The subject of the present project is construction of the infrastructure encompassing access roads and railway tracks construction as well as underground systems composing the logistics centre located in the seaport. The centre will be situated in the Western Port in the vicinity of two big, existing container terminals. The area of this centre may reach 30 ha. It is expected that various economical entities will be carrying out the activity in the centre, mainly logistics operators, enterprises dealing with warehousing services and forwarding companies and other entities rendering the logistics services, who will be able to adapt the rented and developed terrains into their needs.


II Project Objective


This project serves increasing the competitiveness of the Gdynia Port in the region of the Baltic Sea and in the VI TEN-T Corridor. There is also a considerable support to the development of intermodal transport that increase its share in the general cargo transports, mainly in the scope of combined sea and railway transportation. Realisation of the project shall contribute to the increase of investment attractiveness of Poland and its regions, by means of development of the technical infrastructure, and it will create new job posts.


III European Union Subsidies


On 7 June 2006, the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. submitted this project to the Maritime Economy Ministry of Poland, then according to the procedures it was passed to the Ministry of Transport as a project qualified to the Priority VII: "Environmentally Friendly Transport", Activity 7.4 Development of Intermodal Transport. The project will apply for the EU subsidies, by means of contest.


IV Basic Technical Data Encompass:


  • construction of the main communication road and access roads - 2,3 km;
  • construction of the network of railway sidings that make possible servicing of the intermodal transportation - 4,4 km;
  • construction of open parking places and manoeuvring yards for trucks - 6,2 thousand m2;
  • replacing and levelling of terrain - 276 thousand m3;
  • ordering of water management - 1,7 km;
  • construction of telecommunication, power supply and water supply and sewage infrastructure - 15 km, including also 4 transformer station.

V Activities for Implementation of the Investment


Three phases are to be differentiated within this undertaking:

1. Preparatory works including elaboration of indispensable experts' opinions, concept projects, construction projects, work take-offs and technical specifications. This phase started in 2005 and it will be lasted until the end of 2008.

2. Investment realisation is preceded by realisation of procedure for the contractor of the investment. Commencing of the investment will take place in 2009 and putting of the whole area of the logistics centre into commission is planned for 2011. However, partial renting of extremely far located joined areas will be possible step by step as the interested clients appear, as soon as in the course of 2010.

3. Project promotion - promotion activities are being carried out all the time and they will be intensified after the funds from the European Union are received - covering the period of realisation of the investment, so that after its finishing, the potential customers were able to start their investment plans and economical activity.
