Development of the Bulgarian Quay Area in the Port of Gdynia

I Project Description

The investment is located in the Western Port and it will encompass the construction of missing sections of Bulgarian Berth and of the "closing section" as well as roads and manoeuvre yards with over- and underground infrastructure. Development encompasses also the settlement of the Chylonka River mouth with construction of the stopover berth and consecutive construction of manoeuvre areas. The investment is to cause the expansion of the potential for servicing the general cargo and to fulfil the requirements of ferry, container and logistics activities. The investment is the element of the TEN-T network system.


II Project Objective


The most important aim is the establishment of advantageous conditions for development and increase of unitized general cargo re-loading which in turn should increase the competitiveness of Polish sea ports in the region of the Baltic Sea. World sea transportation will dynamically grow, by 3 - 4% annually. The project will also make it possible to establish new connections by means of the sea motorways.


III European Union Subsidies


In 2006, the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. submitted the cost estimates to the Maritime Economy Ministry of Poland and by this virtue, the project was placed in the Indicative Specification of Remaining Individual Key Projects for the Infrastructure and Environment Operation Project, Priority Axis VII - "Transport Friendly to Environment", Activity 7.2 Development of Maritime Transportation, Reserve Projects: No. 112, page 26: Development of the Bulgarian Quay Area.


IV Basic Technical Data


Closing Berth - section length of 127,52 rm. The Bulgarian Quay of the length of ca. 187,1 rm, track for the berth overhead crane.


V Activities for Realisation of the Project


Commencing the investment will take place in January 2010 and putting of the whole investment into commission is planned for 2011.
