19.06.2010   OOCL is to call at the Gdynia BCT

The OOCL (Ocean Overseas Container Line), one of the world’s greatest shipping and logistic operators with its headquarters in Hong-Kong starts calling its feeder ships at the Baltic Container Terminal.  By this the OOCL navigation operations conducted so far via the Gdańsk Harbour are to be shifted to the BCT.  At present there are two calls a week with a real prospect to expand the services in the future.  The first OOCL vessel is expected at the BCT on 5 July 2010.

”We are pleased to inform that after many years of the OOCL’s presence on the Polish market we have decided to commence a co-operation with the Baltic Container Terminal in Gdynia starting from July this year. The technological potential and high professionalism of the terminal personnel make possible the further, fast development of the OOCL shipowner company on the Polish market - says Leszek Walczuk, OOCL Polska Country Manager .
“We are sure that our co-operation with the BCT will be beneficial for all the parties participating in the transportation process. The mission of the OOCL shipowner company is to supply its clients with the best solutions as regards the technology, on the basis of the integrated service of the container and logistic transportation. Opening of the co-operation with the BCT is matching perfectly our mission determined as stated above . We believe that shifting to Gdynia our feeder ships operating within the SBX Baltic service will surely improve the effectiveness and quality of the servicing of these vessels.

Krzysztof Szymborski, the BCT President underlines: “The OOCL’s decision is a recognition act for our services we offer in our terminal”.  And he carries on: “We are very pleased that our offer to service OOCL vessels has met with positive approval, and in spite of recent maelstroms on the container transportation markets it confirms the firm and stable position of the BCT amidst the Tri City terminals. The decision made by this exacting operator confirms that the objectives we have commited, i.e. the high quality services we render to our customers, both shipping operators and forwarders, the safety of the containers and goods entrusted to us, the high handling rate of loading and unloading ships, the reliability supported by a very good EDI instrumentation of the highest world level - and all this for reasonable price - is the right policy in such demanding times for our industry”.
